About the Opportunity 

Our client, who isa crown corporation, is currently looking for a Director of Finance to join their team. You would be responsible for the corporation’s accounting and financial planning functions, including formulating financial administration and accounting policies, procedures and systems, directing the preparation of financial statements and various reports to management and the Board of Directors.

Duties include but are not limited to: 
  • Develop materials and present to the Audit Committee, as required
  • Establish and maintain appropriate middle office and back-office processes and controls to ensure the effective operation of the organization’s finance function
  • Establish and maintain appropriate governance processes
  • Develop, promote, and monitor compliance with, corporate policies, standards, regulations and procedures governing financial operations (accounting, control, treasury analytics and reporting), ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Direct the preparation of the quarterly and annual financial statements and submit the statements to the CFO & Head, Business Integration for presentation to the Audit Committee
  • Working with the Director, Corporate Strategy, the incumbent directs the preparation of financial forecasts and the administration and coordination of annual operating plans and provides recommendations to the CFO & Head, Business Integration
  • Co-ordinate the annual operational budget submissions and approval process, ensuring regular variance reports are available to managers
  • Promote and ensure prudence and probity in the management of corporate expenditures, asset control and liabilities and provide accounting to the CFO & Head, Business Integration on the utilization of these resources (e.g. Public Accounts of Canada, annual financial statements, monthly reconciliation and other reports including disclosure of Executive expenses on the organization’s web site)
  • Conduct cash flow forecasting, manage transaction risk and prepare performance evaluation in order to identify, measure, monitor and report financial risk exposures resulting from treasury activities in a manner consistent with Board approved policies
  • Review the Corporation’s tax position and make recommendations to the CFO & Head, Business Integration on corporate income tax & HST matters, to support decision-making processes
  • Direct the collection of information, via various on-line systems, from the departments within the organization pertaining to the achievement of their objectives and prepare comprehensive Performance Assessment Reports for management and the Board of Directors, ensuring accurate and timely information is provided
  • Contribute to the development and revision of corporate accounting policies and procedures, ensuring accounting systems and data integrity so that the organization controls and reports financial results according to Government and commercial accounting standards
  • Advise other divisions and department heads on financial issues facing the Corporation to facilitate understanding and resolution of issues
  • Monitoring of emerging accounting issues and analysis of potential impact to the organization
About You

The successful candidate will have the following:
  • CPA designation
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS
  • 7+ years of experience managing a team of professionals 
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills
  • Advanced interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Excellent ability to work strategically and collaboratively with internal and stakeholders
  • Bilingualism is preferred (BBB level)
  • Must be able to obtain Secret clearance
